About the firm

A different kind of
Georgian law firm.

Founded by former first-instance and appellate judges, Metric Law/Tax combines deep roots in the Georgian legal system with the international reach and perspective complex modern matters demand.

The firm

Strategic legal advisory and tax resolution. Georgian expertise, global execution.

Metric Law/Tax is a Tbilisi-based strategic legal advisory and tax dispute resolution firm. We combine deep Georgian expertise with the international reach to manage cross-border disputes, transactions, and regulatory matters across more than 30 jurisdictions.

Our practice is intentionally focused. We do not try to be all things to all clients. Instead, we concentrate where Georgian and international law intersect and create real complexity, and where our team’s specific experience — as former judges, accredited mediators, and internationally trained advisers — makes a genuine difference to outcomes.

What sets us apart

Four things that define how we practise.

01

Former judges on your side

Our senior team members are former judges of the first-instance and appellate courts — one of whom served on the High Council of Justice, another as an ad hoc judge of the European Court of Human Rights and as vice-president of CEPEJ (Council of Europe). They know exactly how courts reason, having done so for more than a decade. That perspective cannot be replicated through practice alone.

02

Genuine international reach

Our senior team members hold postgraduate law degrees from U.S. and European institutions — including Chicago-Kent College of Law and Central European University — and have direct working experience with law firms, courts, and institutions in the United States, United Kingdom, and across Europe. We work internationally because we have trained internationally.

03

Written assessment before any commitment

Before any engagement begins, we provide a clear, written assessment of the client’s legal position — covering realistic prospects, risks, available options, and likely costs. There is no false optimism at Metric Law/Tax. Clients make decisions based on accurate information, not on what they would prefer to hear.

04

Innovative and specialist practice areas

Metric Law/Tax is among the first Georgian law firms to develop active practice in real estate tokenization, cross-border private placements under U.S. securities law, and VASP regulatory licensing. We invest in areas of law where most firms are not yet deeply specialized — because that is where our clients face the most complex and consequential decisions.

Our history

Founded in 2017. Built on decades of judicial and legal experience.

“To deliver precise, strategic, and practical legal solutions that genuinely serve client’s long-term interests — both in the courtroom and across their broader business.”

Lasha Kalandadze — Managing Partner

Metric Law & Tax Advisory was established in 2017 by Lasha Kalandadze, a former judge and deputy chairman of the Tbilisi Court of Appeals, following a judicial career spanning over a decade — including service as a member of the High Council of Justice of Georgia.

The firm was built around a specific conviction: Georgian clients and international clients operating in Georgia deserve legal counsel equal in quality and sophistication to the best international firms, combined with the authoritative local insight that only practitioners with genuine judicial experience can provide.

Since 2017, the firm has grown to include senior counsel with comparable judicial backgrounds and international credentials, and has developed active practices in areas — including digital assets, cross-border capital markets, and international arbitration — that few Georgian firms have prioritised.

Our values

How we work with every client.

Precision

Legal advice that is precise, accurate, and grounded in a thorough analysis of the applicable law and the specific facts of each matter. We do not deal in generalities.

Honesty

We tell clients what they need to know, not what they want to hear. A realistic assessment of the legal position — including risks and realistic prospects — is the foundation of every client relationship.

Confidentiality

Absolute discretion is a core principle of our practice — in commercial matters, in litigation, and especially in personal legal work. Client matters are never discussed outside the scope required to deliver the advice.

Practicality

Legal advice must be actionable. We identify the legal position, the options, and the practical path forward — not just the theoretical framework.

Long-term perspective

We advise with client’s long-term interests in mind. Short-term solutions that create larger problems down the line are not advice — they are a failure of counsel.

Excellence

Every document, opinion, and submission that leaves this firm meets the standard we would expect if we were the client. Quality is not a differentiator — it is the baseline.
